CEO of sportsbetting site found dead in Vancouver street

The Vancouver Sun reports that the bullet riddled body of 45 year old CEO of the Costa Rica-based online sportsbetting website 777betz.com, James Po Ho Cheung, was found in his car parked outside his residence Saturday.  The police have yet to establish who killed him and the motive.

Residents in the area reported gunshots in the early hours of the morning, leading to police patrols finding the dead man. An autopsy was performed Monday and both the crime scene and Cheung's vehicle are undergoing forensic inspection.

Cheung was president and CEO of 777 Sports Entertainment Group, whose Internet gaming operations are conducted from San Jose, Costa Rica. Last year the company announced that operations at subsidiary 777betz.com would be expanded using Chimera, an online gambling wireless platform.

The parent company was founded in 2005 and is listed on the US pink sheets as an over-the-counter stock priced at around 19 cents, giving the company a market cap of around $6 million.  There are 112 investors and the operational arm - 777betz - offers multi-player card games including Texas Hold'em, Omaha, 7 Card Stud and Chinese Poker, as well as sports betting and horse racing.

Murder of Internet Gambling Exec Reveals Dark Dangerous Lifestyle

Gambling info websites can reveal that the Vancouver Sun is about to release an article detailing some of the involvements of one James Po Ho Cheung, an Internet gambling executive, which could have led to his slaying during the early morning hours Saturday.

Cheung was shot by somebody apparently waiting for him to return home to his modest two-storey residence, which is protected by bars on the windows and a steel grill across the front door. An autopsy was performed Monday.

Multiple shots were fired at the businessman as he sat in his blood-splattered Cadillac behind the east Vancouver house. Police would not say how many shots were fired or give details of the weapon or weapons that may have been used.

Vancouver Police spokesman Const. Howard Chow said Cheung was not known to police.

But the Vancouver Sun told gambling information website on Tuesday that the online gambling executive was about to face money laundering charges.  There were other matters Cheung had been involved with in the past that the paper was delving deeper into, much of which had little if anything to do with Internet gambling.

Cheung's website, 777betz.com, is believed to have been offline for more than a year.  777 Sports Entertainment operated as a licensee of the Chimera 2 suite of online and wireless gaming platforms and traded publicly on the Pink Sheets (SVNP).
