Getting a head start on the competition

Moving fast into the new UK gambling space this week was game testing laboratory group Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) Inc and its subsidiary GLI Europe, which announced that they have become the first test and verification laboratories to be provisionally approved by the UK Gambling Commission.

The group has significant and ongoing testing involvement, mainly in the land gambling industry and employs over 400 people in 9 offices across the United States and in Italy, the UK, South Africa, Australia, and the Netherlands.

On a worldwide basis, GLI has either consulted and/or tested machines for more than 360 jurisdictions in countries including Aland, Australia, Belgium, Canada, The Caribbean, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Russia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The United Kingdom and The United States.

The GLI release says that it may now accept submissions for the UK market and begin to provide feedback to manufacturers finalising their development for the new categories of gaming equipment.

“This is an important step forward, for GLI, GLI Europe and the emerging UK gaming market,” said Ian Hughes, GLI’s Senior Director of Engineering and Client Services.

“As the UK continues down the gaming path, GLI is committed to working closely with and lending our expertise to the Gambling Commission and suppliers well into the future.”

The GLI parent company is an American group, based in Lakewood, New Jersey and a spokesman said that the recognition by the UK gambling authority further establishes its position as a major international gaming testing laboratory group.

“We have been preparing for the UK market for the last twelve months and are pleased to be the first test house to be provisionally approved by the Gambling Commission,” said Peter Cercone, GLI Europe’s General Manager.

“We have increased our engineering resources to cope with the additional work load and look forward to further developing our relationships with the UK AWP and casino suppliers. We also look forward to working closely with the Gambling Commission as the technical requirements for all categories are phased into the market.”

Gaming Laboratories International, Inc. was founded in September 1987, under the name JRM Enterprises, a sole proprietorship owned by President/Founder James R. Maida. From the period 1987 to July 1989, the company’s primary clients were the State of Montana and the State of South Dakota. On July 1, 1989, James R. Maida and Paul J. Magno merged JRM Enterprises into Gaming Laboratories International, Inc. (GLI), with its World Headquarters located in Toms River, New Jersey. Since that date, GLI has entered into more than 360 contracts worldwide to perform machine testing and certification on more than 300 000 devices.
