Hungary's state gambling company to expand online
The Hungarian state gaming company Szerencsejáték may not like foreign competition via the Internet, but it has no problem expanding its own operations into the online milieu, it appears.
CEO Gábor Székely has announced a public tender for the purchase of information technology equipment to facilitate the expansion of his company's online gambling services. The introduction of some of the games will take 18 months, due to long legal procedures, he noted.
Some games, including lotteries, are barred to foreign residents, as they have no registered address or bank account in Hungary.
At the end of last year the European Commission requested that Hungary open up its sports betting market to other EU member states in line with the EU principle of free movement of goods and services. Hungarian sports fans gambled an estimated Ft 15 billion online last year. |
