All Africa Poker Channel presenter takes million Rand Southern African title
The Sun City One Million Rand Heads Up Challenge in South Africa earlier this (September) month shone the spotlight on a poker commentator who can walk the walk as well as talk about the game.
All Africa Poker Channel commentator and online poker player, Ryan Brauer showcased his expertise by winning the million Rand challenge against some impressive opposition. He went on to place sixth in the Sun City main event for a further R231 000 ($33 000).
"It's not often that sports commentators get the chance to be on both sides of the action, and Brauer's knowledge of the game makes him a highly respected spokesperson for the sport," said Wendy Graaf, Piggs Peak Casino group marketing manager and a sponsor of the challenge.
"While sitting at the table, he brings a level of skill and standard that local poker players should certainly aspire to emulate."
Brauer's international prowess was on show earlier this year when he finished in 30th place in the Aussie Millions, collecting a paycheck of almost a quarter of a million Rands.
His next stop was the R2 250 000 All Africa Poker Tournament at Piggs Peak Casino, Swaziland, where he finished in second place, earning R300 000. In June he won a prize package to the 2007 World Series of Poker at another All Africa Poker Tournament during the R500 000 Second Chance Freeze-out event.
WSOP Vegas success eluded him, however although the trip to the USA wasn't wasted when Brauer entered a Bellagio Cup event - the $2 500 No-Limit Hold'em - and came away with over $150 000. |
